FIDA Rivers State Rescues Two-Week-Old Infant Abandoned at Abua Shrine, Seeks Support
The Rivers State branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) stepped in after credible information emerged that a two-week-old boy had been left in front of a shrine in Abua, Abua/Odual LGA. With police assistance, FIDA quickly secured the child and brought him to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for initial medical checks. Interviews revealed the mother first entrusted the baby to his father, but the grandfather allegedly dumped the infant at night. FIDA provided emergency living support for the young mother to continue breastfeeding and arranged immediate health assessments. Although the baby is now stable, further tests are needed for his long-term well-being. FIDA appeals to well-meaning individuals and groups to contribute toward medical expenses, nutritional aid, and essential baby supplies.
