Yankari Game Reserve Clash: Vigilante Killed, Four Bandits Shot Dead
A local vigilante member, Hambali Saadu, was killed last Sunday after suspected bandits ambushed a joint patrol at Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State. Police said the attack happened around 1:30pm along the Bakin Layi axis. The team included officers from the Mai-Ari Outpost and members of a local vigilante group. The 27-year-old from Mai-Ari Village sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead by a medical doctor before being buried according to Islamic rites. The security team regrouped and launched a counterattack. They pursued the fleeing assailants into the bush and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Four bandits were shot dead and four others arrested; some escapees were believed to have been wounded. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condoled with the family and community. He praised the vigilante’s bravery and vowed to intensify operations against banditry around the reserve.
