Nenadi Usman Confirmed as Labour Party National Chairman, Urges Unity
Senator Nenadi Usman has been elected substantive National Chairman of the Labour Party by consensus at the party’s 2026 National Convention in Umuahia, Abia State. Her confirmation follows INEC recognition and court rulings that settled a 19-month leadership dispute. In her acceptance address, the former Finance Minister extended an olive branch to aggrieved members and stressed that unity and reconciliation are vital as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. She credited recent legal victories and the caretaker committee’s work for restoring stability and legitimacy. Speeches by Governor Alex Otti, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and representatives of the TUC and NLC highlighted the importance of internal democracy and disciplined organisation. The newly sworn-in National Working Committee has officially assumed office to strengthen the party’s structures nationwide.
