Critics have long condemned Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for advocating dialogue and negotiations with bandits to tackle insecurity in Northern Nigeria. They now argue that Peter Obi’s support for talks with both bandits and Biafra agitators should attract the same label of “terrorist sympathizer.” The call is for a consistent standard: if negotiating with violent groups is wrong for one public figure, it should be wrong for all, regardless of region, religion or politics.
