Chuba Akpom Completes Permanent Move to Ipswich After Promotion

Chuba Akpom Completes Permanent Move to Ipswich After Promotion — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom will join Ipswich Town on a permanent three-year deal starting July 1, 2026. The transfer clause worth around £7 million was activated after the Tractor Boys secured promotion to the Premier League. During his 2025/26 loan at Portman Road, the 30-year-old forward made 31 appearances, contributing key goals against Oxford United and Hull City. He turned down a permanent offer from Birmingham City in August 2025 to pursue top-flight football. Prior to his time in England, Akpom scored 23 goals in 68 appearances for Ajax. His signing is part of Ipswich’s summer recruitment strategy, which also includes the permanent capture of defender Cedric Kipre.

Do we know if Ipswich signed him purely for goals? Which performance metric are you expecting to drive their survival?

Doubt one signing alone will shift Ipswich's survival odds that drastically.

Securing a player on a three-year deal after promotion makes sense, but £7 million seems steep for a 30-year-old whose loan record was solid yet unspectacular.

I'm not convinced Akpom will adapt to the Premier League grind after Portman Road; many loanees struggle with the step up in intensity.

Ipswich should focus on strengthening their midfield to support Akpom up front, ensuring they find goals from other areas when opponents mark him tightly.
