JAMB 274: Which Public University Can My Daughter Study Medicine?

My daughter has dreamed of studying medicine since last year. In her first attempt, she scored 262 in JAMB and had WAEC grades: Physics A1, Maths A1, English C6, Biology B3, Chemistry B2. Admissions officers said she couldn’t get medicine with that aggregate, so we switched her choice to nursing. We then relied on advice from a family friend linked to Osun State University, changed her choice of school and course, and missed the deadline. She didn’t get admission. This was heartbreaking, so she took extra JAMB lessons and scored 274 this year. I don’t want to repeat last year’s mistake. Which public universities, apart from private institutions, will accept her for medicine with a 274 JAMB score? If medicine isn’t possible, which university would offer guaranteed admission for nursing? Any guidance will help us avoid wasting another year. Thanks and God bless for your input.

With a 262 JAMB score and those WAEC grades, which public universities still open doors for medicine applicants?

Are you certain her WAEC grades hit the required O'level subject pass marks for med schools?

262 and those WAEC grades no too guarantee public med spot now, better keep backup plans in mind.

It seems most federal universities hike their medicine cut-off above 280, so a 262 score might indeed limit options significantly.

I'm not convinced that swapping courses was the only option; maybe a better strategy would've been applying to newer universities with lower medicine thresholds.

You might explore state universities or private missions schools that sometimes accept lower JAMB scores into medicine through direct entry or remedial programmes.
