Ibadan Woman Jailed for Using Forged Marriage Certificate in Divorce Case
A Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan sentenced a 50-year-old woman to one year in prison after she admitted presenting a forged marriage certificate during her divorce case. Her husband had filed for divorce over unresolved marital disagreements. She opposed the petition and submitted a certificate dated September 12, 1996, claiming it proved their marriage should not be dissolved. The husband challenged the document, and an investigation found that the Ibadan North Local Government registry did not issue the certificate. The court convicted her on charges relating to unlawful possession and forgery, while discharging her of conspiracy.
