Manchester-based Nigerian Student Convicted of Attempted Rape in Hull
A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Qudus Ajeyemi, was found guilty at Hull Crown Court on May 29 2026 of attempted rape by a 10-2 majority verdict and of sexual assault by a unanimous decision. Prosecutors heard that Ajeyemi followed a woman upstairs at a house party in Hull, ignored her clear refusals and attempted to remove her underwear. The victim, who had been unwell after drinking alcohol, managed to fight him off and escape downstairs in distress. Ajeyemi later admitted wrongdoing in a FaceTime call and sent apology texts. He denied the charges in police interviews, claiming only kissing and cuddling occurred. The international student, with no prior UK convictions, was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced in the coming weeks. The victim overcame fears about his visa status to report the incident and prevent future harm.
