Is a US Nuclear Strike on Iran Possible in the 21st Century?

Trump threatened Iran tonight in what sounded like a nuclear warning. Could the US really launch a nuclear strike today? The US used nuclear weapons twice in World War II and remains the only country to do so. Today, nuclear know-how is widespread. Even nations without in-house expertise can acquire weapons through allies. Under Islamic law, defenders may respond with equivalent force. A nuclear threat from the US would, in theory, justify an Iranian nuclear response. But how could Iran deliver a bomb across such distances? Many analysts argue that US hostility toward Iran is driven by pressure from Gulf states and Israel. If nuclear confrontation draws closer, those allies may also face serious risks.
