How I Lost ₦1.5M to a Fake Vehicle Financing Company

How I Lost ₦1.5M to a Fake Vehicle Financing Company — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I want to share my experience to warn others about a vehicle financing scam. I responded to an advert from a company called “Drivaro Auto Financing” offering auto loan support. They asked me to open a Paga account and deposit 30% equity for the financing. Right after I transferred ₦1,500,000, the money vanished. It was sent to an account under the name “Idowu Adeluola” and I was blocked. Since then, I’ve reported this case to the relevant authorities. In hindsight, several red flags stood out: they pressured me to open a new account immediately, asked me to move funds into unverified accounts, provided no transparent loan documents or physical office details, and went silent after payment. If you’re exploring any auto financing arrangement, always verify the company’s registration, insist on clear legal agreements, visit a physical office if possible, and confirm bank details before transferring large sums. Has anyone else dealt with this company or faced a similar scam? Please share your story.

What signs did you notice before transferring your deposit, and could anyone else spot red flags we might have missed?

During the application process, did any inconsistencies or unusual delays make you pause before sending your deposit?

It seems odd that a financing company would ask for a large equity deposit before any paperwork or formal agreement were in place.

I get being cautious, but asking for upfront equity isn't unheard of in auto financing. Doesn't mean verification should be skipped though.

Next time, verify company registration on CAC portal, request written financing terms, and never transfer funds without a signed contract.
