Anambra State Moves to Prosecute Unrecognized Traditional Rulers

Anambra State Moves to Prosecute Unrecognized Traditional Rulers

The Anambra government has warned that anyone claiming to be a traditional ruler without official recognition and certification will face arrest and prosecution. Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs Vincent Ezeaka issued a directive to town union presidents, citing reports of individuals performing duties reserved for recognised chiefs. Under the Traditional Rulers Law of Anambra, unauthorised assumption of a royal title is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment. Communities are asked to report any unlicensed claimants to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Justice for legal action.
