Ooni of Ife Gives Newborn Princess Four Traditional Names
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has formally named his newborn daughter at a traditional ceremony held at Emese Court in the Ooni’s Palace, Ile-Ife, Osun State. The event took place one week after the delivery of the baby by Queen Oluwatosin Ogunwusi. The princess was given four traditional names: Adelewa, Adeyele, Adeshikemi and Ayoade. Palace chiefs, traditional rulers, family members and other guests attended the ceremony. The rites featured prayers and symbolic Yoruba items, including honey, kola nuts, alligator pepper, snails and doves. The items represented prayers for sweetness, wisdom, prosperity, peace, long life and divine protection for the princess and the royal household.
