AMEN President Says Free CAC Registration Overlooks SMEs’ Real Challenges
The leader of the Association of Micro Entrepreneurs of Nigeria warns that offering free CAC registration for 250,000 SMEs misses the bigger issues. He argues that access to affordable finance, high operating costs, and unreliable electricity supply are the true barriers to business survival. Citing data suggesting half a million SMEs have shut down under the current administration, he urges the government to focus on reviving closed enterprises and ensuring transparent disbursement of intervention funds. He also calls for regular consultations with business associations to craft practical, growth-oriented policies. Drawing lessons from economies such as China and Japan, he recommends deliberate investment in local manufacturing, improved power infrastructure, and easier access to credit as ways to stimulate production, create jobs, and reduce poverty.
