IGP Orders Investigation into 2019 Abduction and Alleged Killing of Activist Dadiyata

IGP Orders Investigation into 2019 Abduction and Alleged Killing of Activist Dadiyata

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Police Monitoring Unit to probe allegations against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba over the disappearance and alleged killing of lecturer-activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata. The action follows petitions by human rights lawyer Abba Hikima, which cited claims from former aide Muhammad Musa Kamarawa. He alleges the officers threatened that they had killed Dadiyata and others during Operations Yaki in Kaduna. Dadiyata was abducted from his Barnawa, Kaduna, home in August 2019 and has been missing ever since. Public concern over his fate prompted calls for an independent investigative panel. Acknowledging the petitions, the IGP’s office confirmed the matter is under immediate review. Officials say the probe will be transparent: false allegations will clear the officers, while proven wrongdoing will see justice served regardless of rank.
