CSOs, Students Protest in Osun, Call for CP Gotan’s Redeployment
Civil society groups under the Network of Osun Civil Society Groups, joined by residents and students, marched in Osogbo on Monday. They carried placards reading “Gotan Must Go,” “We Want Unbiased Policing in Osun,” and “We Demand Non-Partisan Policing.” Protesters accused Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan of ignoring rising political violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election. They pointed to torn campaign billboards, attacks by suspected political thugs and a lack of arrests or prosecutions. The groups urged Inspector-General of Police Tunde Disu to redeploy Gotan and appoint an impartial officer who will ensure security and prevent voter disenfranchisement. Dugbe division’s DPO, Joshua Owolabi, appealed for a peaceful demonstration and assured that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property.
