ASUU-IMSU Begins Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries and Arrears
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University chapter, has begun a total and indefinite strike, halting academic activities at the Owerri institution. The union accused the Imo State Government and university management of failing to implement the 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement. It also cited unpaid salaries, promotion arrears dating back to 2016, withheld check-off dues and unpaid Earned Academic Allowances. ASUU-IMSU said it had held meetings with management and issued a 21-day ultimatum without a meaningful response. The union said it will not resume work until the agreement and outstanding welfare commitments are fully implemented.
