Lamine Yamal Slams Anti-Muslim Chants During Spain vs Egypt Friendly

Lamine Yamal Slams Anti-Muslim Chants During Spain vs Egypt Friendly — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Spain’s goalless friendly against Egypt was marred by a section of home fans chanting “Whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim,” a slogan widely criticised as insulting to Islam. Barcelona and Spain forward Lamine Yamal, who is Muslim, condemned the chants as ignorant and racist. He stressed that mocking religion has no place in football and called the behaviour “disrespectful and unacceptable.” The Spanish Football Federation, host club Espanyol, and the national government have denounced the incident and launched investigations. Yamal concluded with a plea for respect in sport and thanked supporters ahead of the World Cup.

It's worrying that such chants still happen at international friendlies, even in top footballing nations like Spain.

Sure it's wrong, but are isolated chants really representative of Spanish fans as a whole?
