Tinubu Commissions Record Health Infrastructure Expansion Across Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu on Friday unveiled new and upgraded healthcare facilities in all six geopolitical zones. It was billed as the nation’s largest single-day health infrastructure launch. Projects span specialist hospitals, emergency response systems, primary healthcare centres, immunisation hubs and medical laboratories. The flagship Bola Tinubu Specialist Complex in Abuja offers consulting rooms, twin theatres, specialised departments, modern labs, pharmacy services and VIP and general wards. The President also launched the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System. The fleet includes 79 ambulances, 145 tricycle units and six boats, supported by laptops, printers and mobile phones under the SAVEMAMA maternal and newborn health programme. In Lagos, CNG-powered ambulances will serve 73 federal tertiary hospitals. Additional inaugurations cover polio emergency centres in Kano, Katsina and Sokoto, World Bank-backed primary healthcare centres, new laboratory and pharmacy complexes in teaching hospitals, and a 50-bed mental health and drug rehabilitation centre in Maiduguri. Nearly 3,000 centres have been revitalised and over 2,900 facilities upgraded nationwide.
