May 30 Biafra Remembrance: South East & South South Prepare for Sit-At-Home
Communities across the old Eastern Region are gearing up for Biafra Remembrance Day on May 30, 2026. Cities from Enugu and Aba to Port Harcourt and Calabar plan a full sit-at-home lockdown from dawn until 4 PM to honor those who lost their lives during the civil war. Residents will stay indoors in solemn reflection on the sacrifices of Biafran men, women, and children. Banks, schools, markets, government offices, transport services, and many private businesses will close in observance of this day of unity and shared identity. Youth groups, market unions, and community leaders are urging peaceful compliance. On social media, photos, historical tributes, and songs of remembrance are rallying Ndi Igbo and supporters of peace and justice across both regions.
