FG Waives UTME for Colleges of Education and ND Agriculture, Aiming to Boost Admissions by 1.5M
The Federal Government has dropped the UTME requirement for candidates seeking admission into colleges of education and selected National Diploma agriculture programmes. The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said this change could increase tertiary admissions by about 1.5 million. Under the new policy, applicants with at least four credit passes in relevant subjects can apply directly, though they must still register with JAMB and have their credentials screened through the Central Admissions Processing System. The government also revised O-level requirements. Candidates for Law, Arts and Social Sciences now need only a credit in English, while those pursuing Science and Engineering require only a credit in Mathematics. Earlier reforms already lifted admitted students from 770,000 to 1.1 million within a year. Alausa explained that these measures aim to expand access to higher education and remove unnecessary barriers, especially in teacher education and agriculture.
