1 / 2

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative congratulates Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani on making history at the Transparency International Movement Awards in Berlin. As Executive Director of CISLAC and head of TI Nigeria, Rafsanjani received the Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence on 1 July 2026. He is the first African recipient of this top honour within the global TI movement. NEITI’s Executive Secretary described the award as a proud moment for Nigeria’s transparency and accountability community. He highlighted CISLAC’s vital role in advancing good governance in the extractive sector. This recognition not only celebrates Rafsanjani’s decades of principled advocacy but also underscores the impact of African voices in driving global anti-corruption efforts.

Could such high-profile recognition actually motivate real change in local governance, or does it risk staying symbolic?

To build on this milestone, stakeholders should host regular workshops and town halls that empower citizens to monitor extractive practices effectively.
