Media Mogul Ted Turner: From CNN Pioneer to Conservation Philanthropist (1938–2026)
Ted Turner was an American media pioneer and philanthropist. He founded CNN, the first 24-hour news channel. He also launched WTBS and created the TNT network. He donated $1 billion to establish the United Nations Foundation and co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative. He chaired both boards to support global diplomacy and reduce the spread of weapons of mass destruction. Through Turner Enterprises, he managed business holdings and nearly two million acres of land in the U.S. and Argentina. His ranches hosted the world’s largest private bison herd and promoted sustainable conservation. He married three times and had five children. In 2010, he joined the Giving Pledge to leave most of his fortune to charity. Turner died peacefully at his Florida home on May 6, 2026, at age 87.
