Police Confirm 13 Killed in Benue Attack, Say Gunmen Were Rustling Cattle

Benue Police Command says 13 people were killed when armed men attacked Efeyi community in Ugboju District, Otukpo LGA, on Tuesday. Police said the attackers allegedly invaded the area to rustle cattle and opened fire on farmers while fleeing with 20 stolen cows. Residents had earlier put the death toll at 15. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu led a clearance operation after the attack. Police said two suspected bandits were killed in a gunfight, while an AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Security operatives are searching nearby forests and surrounding communities for other suspects and the stolen cattle. Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the attack and pledged support for efforts to secure affected communities.
