Frank Onyeka Features as Coventry City Return to Premier League After 25 Years

Frank Onyeka featured as Coventry City secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2001. The Sky Blues earned a 1-1 draw at Blackburn thanks to Bobby Thomas’ late equaliser. Coventry needed just one point to seal promotion but fell behind to Ryoya Morishita’s opener. Six minutes from time, Thomas rose highest to nod in from a free-kick and clinch the vital draw. Onyeka played until the 62nd minute, while fellow Nigerian Ryan Alebiosu completed the full 90. Under Frank Lampard’s management, Coventry have risen from League Two in 2017 to storm the Championship this season and will secure the title soon. The draw also bolsters Blackburn’s hopes of avoiding relegation, leaving them five points clear of the drop zone with four games to play.

Do we know if he was more influential defensively or with goal contributions during the promotion run?

Sure Onyeka impressed, but saying he single-handedly got us back feels like selling the squad and coaching short.

Not every promotion story is textbook—Coventry still showed defensive lapses after Morishita's goal, even if they earned the needed draw.

Promotion feels great, but does one point from a draw against Blackburn truly reflect Premier League readiness?

Coventry should reinforce their midfield and tighten defense before next season to build on this promotion momentum.
