Gov Abiodun Commissions 5.5km Elega–Saje Road, Unveils New Link Plans in Abeokuta

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially inaugurated the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road, which spans Abeokuta North and South LGAs. He noted the new route has already eased movement and boosted night-time trade, with solar streetlights set to enhance security. The governor also announced the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road and the construction of a one-kilometre link road with a bridge to Lafenwa, responding to community leaders’ requests. He said these projects will further improve connectivity and stimulate commerce in the area. Abiodun revealed that about 26 state roads are ready for commissioning, with plans to unveil at least one project every week. He highlighted the near-completion of the Car Wash–Adatan Road and praised the refurbished Olumo Rock Tourist Centre for drawing international interest and boosting revenue under its new concession.

Promising solar streetlights should improve safety at night, though many such fixtures in Ogun State have fallen into disrepair before.

Praising a 5.5km stretch feels narrow; Ogun State still lacks coordinated public transport options and broader network plans.

Local markets could organize night bazaars under the new streetlights to boost trade and community engagement after dark.
