Yeye Folashade Shona-Aluko Empowers African Women with Canadian Artisans Association Launch
Yeye Folashade Shona-Aluko officially launched the Canadian chapter of the Association of Female Skilled Artisans on May 16 at the Salvation Army Shelter in Brampton. Community leaders and supporters marked the event with celebration and commitment to women’s economic empowerment. She explained that the new branch builds on existing Nigerian chapters to help African women worldwide acquire skills such as tailoring, hairdressing, and crafts. Brampton, home to over 12,000 Nigerian immigrants, was chosen to extend opportunities for financial independence and entrepreneurial success. HRH Dr. Olusegun Aderemi highlighted artisans’ vital role in driving economic growth. The initiative collaborates with agencies like UBEC and SUBEB to promote quality education and skills training. Yeye Folashade’s extensive background in education and philanthropy, alongside her awards and chieftaincy titles, underscores her dedication to community development.
