Military and Community Unite to Rescue Kidnapped Woman, Foil N2.1m Ransom Plot in Plateau
A woman abducted from her home on May 4 was freed unharmed in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. Troops from Sector 2 of Operation Enduring Peace intercepted a suspect on a speeding motorcycle at Kukawa checkpoint on May 18. The man identified himself as Mr Sulaiman Abbas and said kidnappers had demanded N2.1 million. Troops directed him to contact the gang, which arranged to meet in Wanka village. A joint operation with local vigilantes and a community leader confronted a suspected gang leader known as Azuge. The victim was released at about 3:10 p.m. without ransom payment. Security authorities described the rescue as a success achieved through close military and community cooperation.
