Abuja CP Warns Against Roadside Phone Searches by Police
The Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner, Ahmed Sanusi, has instructed Abuja residents not to allow any police officer to search their phones during random road stops. He spoke to reporters on July 20 and cited abuses and extortion by some officers. He explained that phones should only be searched after a lawful arrest and at a police station when gathering evidence. Sanusi urged citizens to resist unlawful searches on the road and call for backup if an officer demands to see their phone without proper arrest procedures.
