Amaechi Refuses Peter Obi’s Appeal to Quit ADC 2027 Presidential Race

Amaechi Refuses Peter Obi’s Appeal to Quit ADC 2027 Presidential Race

Former Rivers State governor and Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has declined Peter Obi’s request to step aside in the 2027 presidential primary. Amaechi, Obi and Atiku Abubakar are all contesting for the African Democratic Congress ticket. At a weekend meeting in Abuja, Obi—joined by Achike Udenwa and Victor Umeh—urged Amaechi to support his bid. Amaechi insisted his ambition was serious and said he would not withdraw for any contender. An ADC chieftain confirmed he will back whoever wins the primary, and Obi’s camp had not yet responded.

What factors do you think influenced Amaechi's decision to ignore Peter Obi's call to withdraw from the ADC primary?

I agree. He prolly values his own ambition and support base more than Obi's appeal.

I agree, it probably came down to party loyalty and his own ambition steering that decision.

It seems both Amaechi and Obi pursuing the same ticket could split ADC supporters and risk a fragmented primary outcome.

Insisting that one contender must step aside overlooks the healthy competition that drives party debates and policy clarity.

ADC should run a transparent internal survey to measure each candidate's support and make a data-driven choice, no wahala.
