Gani Adams: South-West Governors Ignored My Security Warnings
Gani Adams has accused South-West governors of dismissing his repeated alerts on rising insecurity in Yorubaland. His remarks follow the mass abduction of teachers and pupils in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area, where one teacher was killed by armed assailants. Speaking on a national breakfast show, Adams warned that mass kidnappings were unprecedented in the region and urged urgent collaboration among traditional institutions and state governments. He revealed that he flagged the threat in Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo and Ogun states months ago through letters and public appeals. Despite organising a world press conference with the Aare-in-Council and 14 regional groups, including the OPC, Adams says governors never responded. He stressed his limited constitutional power to lead security operations but lamented being unfairly blamed for the region’s worsening situation. The attack has prompted condemnations from the Oyo State governor and President Tinubu, who vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and secure the safe release of the remaining abductees.
