Ogun Police Crackdown: 146 Held in Sagamu Zero-Tolerance Operation

Ogun Police Crackdown: 146 Held in Sagamu Zero-Tolerance Operation

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a strict operation against unlawful assemblies and road blockages in Sagamu. Officers dispersed a protest by commercial motorcycle riders who blocked Oba Erinwole GRA Road and disrupted services at the VIO, TRACE Office, and Sotubo Health Centre. Following initial arrests of ten key suspects, the command intensified intelligence-led raids on April 13 across known flashpoints. A joint team of police, army, NSCDC, Amotekun, So-Safe, and vigilantes rounded up 146 more individuals for screening and possible prosecution at the State CID in Abeokuta. Authorities warn that any resort to self-help or obstruction of public roads will be met with the full weight of the law. The command thanked local government leaders, traditional rulers, and security partners for their support and urged residents to channel grievances through legal channels.

I agree, this crackdown fit slow commuters initially, but e fit boost safety and help small businesses steady operations later.

I understand the worry, but this crackdown might even ease traffic flow and boost business confidence later.

This crackdown seems like a quick fix, but what happens once the police leave? Road blockages might just pop up elsewhere.

Detaining dozens of riders seems heavy-handed when minor assemblies were the issue. Authorities should target real culprits, not punish everyday commuters.

Local authorities could schedule regular dialogue with motorcycle unions and ensure road maintenance, preventing blockages before stepping in with force.
