AMVCA 2026: Kunle Remi Urges Attendees to Let Winners Shine

AMVCA 2026: Kunle Remi Urges Attendees to Let Winners Shine — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Nollywood star Kunle Remi used his Instagram story after the 12th AMVCA to ask the audience to give award winners room to celebrate on stage. He reminded fans that winners deserve to own their moment before the crowd joins them. Remi also compared AMVCA to the Oscars, noting that at the Oscars a winner’s name is already engraved on the trophy. He pointed out that in Nollywood all winners share one award and must wait for subsequent ceremonies to collect their own. His comments follow a series of calls for industry reform. Last year Omotola Ekeinde lamented the lack of residuals here compared to Hollywood. Mary Njoku questioned the benefits of guild membership, while Daddy Freeze, Kanayo Kanayo and Debbie Shokoya have all criticized low-quality productions and urged colleagues to raise standards.

Do you agree with Kunle Remi that fans should hold applause until winners finish celebrating at the AMVCA?

Comparing the AMVCA to the Oscars seems a bit ambitious given the differences in industry scale and global reach.

I get what Kunle Remi means, but fans cheering right away is part of live excitement and shouldn't be frowned on.
