Inside Captivity: Freed Ngoshe Woman Recalls Losing Husband and Three Children
More than 350 residents of Ngoshe in Gwoza LGA have shared the horrors they faced after being abducted by Boko Haram and held in the Mandara Mountains for over three months. One survivor, Hafsat Musa, described marching into the mountains with fellow captives, sleeping on hard ground and surviving on raw corn once a day. She only learned of her husband’s death after soldiers rescued her. Another captive, Aisha Bukar, said she still struggles to eat cooked food after months of starvation. Governor Babagana Zulum, who visited the Pulka IDP camp, confirmed 357 people were freed in the latest operation, bringing the total since March to 434. He praised the military, security agencies, and President Tinubu for their roles in securing the hostages’ release and announced rehabilitation plans for Ngoshe’s return. Freed hostages are receiving food, medical and psychological support. Officials are coordinating safe, dignified returns with community and military authorities once survivors are ready for reintegration.
