Ohanaeze Ndigbo Prohibits ‘Eze Ndigbo’ Title Outside Igboland
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has banned the conferment and use of the title “Eze Ndigbo” outside Igboland. Chief John Azuta-Mbata announced this decision during the General Assembly in Enugu. Violators will face sanctions determined by traditional authorities. The ban follows extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers. Ohanaeze will formally notify state governments and diplomatic missions worldwide. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu supported the move. She warned that self-styled kingship in the diaspora has caused tensions and undermined Nigerians’ goodwill abroad. HRH Emmanuel Okeke of the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers pledged full support for enforcement. Ohanaeze also criticized the continued detention of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calling it unjust for the Igbo nation as a whole.
