Couple Arraigned in Lagos for Alleged Attack and Abduction Plot Against Journalist
The Ogba Magistrate Court in Ikeja has arraigned Stella Olufemi Shodimu and her husband, Olufemi Shodimu, on multiple charges including assault, criminal damage, conspiracy and threats against journalist Princess Aladegoroye. Prosecutors say the couple attacked the reporter with a screwdriver and nails at an Ikeja residence in March 2024. They are also accused of damaging her vehicle in August by smashing the windscreen wiper and deflating a tyre. In a separate count, Stella allegedly plotted with unidentified men to abduct the journalist, showing her photo and vehicle details to security guards. Media rights advocates have called for strict enforcement of laws protecting press freedom. As required by law, the defendants remain presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case was adjourned for further hearing.
