Man Mutilates Himself to Ignite Neighbour’s Garage Fire, Faces Arson Charge

A 36-year-old Indiana man is charged with arson after allegedly severing his own genitals and using them to start a fire in a neighbour’s garage. Emergency crews were dispatched to two scenes on May 6: a garage fire and a separate stabbing report in downtown Fort Wayne. Police found the suspect seriously injured and initially told officers he had been attacked, a claim he later recanted. Court documents state he entered the garage around 2am with a kitchen knife, inflicted the wounds on himself, soaked the severed tissue in petrol and used it to ignite flames. He faces a Level 4 felony that carries a possible 12-year prison term.
