Abiodun and Seyi Tinubu Lead Celebrations at Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode

Abiodun and Seyi Tinubu Lead Celebrations at Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, arrived in Ijebu-Ode today for the Ojude Oba festival. The annual event, held on the third day after Eid-el-Kabir, showcases Yoruba culture with flowing agbadas, gele head wraps and intricate beaded accessories as various age groups make their procession. Thousands of guests, including politicians, celebrities and members of the diaspora, converge to celebrate Ijebu heritage and identity each year. This year’s festival is marked by the first absence of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who passed away in July after a 65-year reign as the Awujale of Ijebuland.

It's interesting how much emphasis there was on agbadas and gele, but I wonder if the younger generation truly connects with these traditions.

I'm not convinced a single festival can reflect the full diversity of Yoruba culture across different communities.

If organizers include more educational workshops alongside the parade, attendees could learn deeper meanings behind every attire and ritual.
