Jonathan Seeks Dismissal of Suit Challenging His 2027 Eligibility
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked a court to throw out a suit that seeks to bar him from the 2027 presidential race. Through his lead counsel, SAN Chris Uche, Jonathan filed a conditional appearance, preliminary objection, counter-affidavit and written address on May 5, 2026. He argued the lawyer who brought the case should have known that both the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal have already ruled on his eligibility. At the last hearing, the plaintiff’s counsel, Ndubuisi Ukpai, told the court he had just been served with Jonathan’s processes. Justice Lifu adjourned until May 11, 2026, at 2 pm for arguments on the objection and the main suit. The plaintiff wants a perpetual injunction to stop Jonathan from presenting himself to any party or INEC from accepting or publishing his name as a candidate for the next election.
