Umahi: Southeast Needs Other Zones’ Support to Produce Nigeria’s President
Works Minister David Umahi says the Southeast cannot produce Nigeria’s president through votes from the region alone, arguing that political success requires support across the country. Speaking during a visit by the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja, Umahi urged Southeast leaders and voters to prioritise national alliances, issues and governance over regional sentiment. He said Peter Obi was a friend but maintained that the debate ahead of 2027 should not be driven by emotion. Umahi also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for infrastructure projects in the Southeast. He said the projects reflected an effort to address longstanding concerns about the region’s development and integration.
