Is the High Cost of Living a Bigger US Problem Than Extreme Wealth?
Is extreme wealth among high-net-worth individuals really the main economic problem in the United States, or is the rising cost of living the bigger issue? I believe the value of the dollar should be judged by what it can actually buy. When purchasing power is considered, the US economy and the real value of wealthy individuals may look very different from their figures in nominal dollars. In my view, policymakers should focus on reducing living costs, broadening the tax base through measures such as VAT, and ensuring that CEOs receive transparent, taxable salaries. Workers, companies and government should also be encouraged to save and invest more.
