Compound Gbege: Twins, Quadruplets, and My Sleepless Night
I woke at 3am in the yard because the compound was hot. My neighbor’s wife had just delivered twin boys. Her husband went wild, asking who sent the babies. We begged him, saying it was God’s blessing. While that gbege was happening, we heard another neighbor, Baba Ibeji Meji, rushing his wife to the clinic. She had gone into labor. We called Joe and Bros Oyobo, our Korope driver. They rushed her to the community clinic. Soon, Baba Ibeji Meji’s wife delivered four babies – two boys and two girls. I was overjoyed at first. But news spread fast. The landlord then called for contributions for hospital bills. I dropped all the money I had. This matter has tired me, though. I hope to sleep well tonight. God abeg ooo.
