Federal High Court Vacates Registration of Nigeria Democratic Congress

The Federal High Court in Lokoja has set aside its December 2025 judgment that directed INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party. Justice Isah Dashen found that the earlier ruling violated the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which held the disputed logo. He ordered all parties to return to their pre-ruling positions and to join any missing respondents before trial. The vacated judgment voids INEC’s actions—registration, certificate issuance, record inclusion, and ballot listing—until the substantive case is fully heard. A fresh hearing will now determine the fate of the NDC registration with all interested parties present.

It's telling that the Peace Movement Party's rights were cited to undo a judgment favoring the NDC. Seems process gaps run deep.

Do you think citing one party's rights indicates broader systemic failure, or might this be an isolated procedural quirk?

Vacating NDC's registration under the guise of fairness might just shift power dynamics in favor of established parties, not uphold true justice.

Parties should review their compliance procedures immediately and engage legal experts to avoid similar nullifications in future elections.
