Kano Governor Suspends KNUPDA Boss, Launches Probe into Town Planning Breaches
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has suspended the Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority and the agency’s Director of Architecture. Both officials will step aside while a seven-member committee investigates persistent town planning violations across the state. The panel is chaired by Dr. Aliyu Dalhatu Sani, Director General of KANGIS, with the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Institute serving as secretary. Its mandate is to identify factors behind recurring breaches of planning regulations and propose reforms to strengthen development control. The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, noted that widespread non-compliance has undermined orderly urban development and government investments. Findings from a separate committee on illegal structures revealed the extent of unauthorized developments in key metropolitan areas. The new committee has three weeks to submit a comprehensive report with practical recommendations. The government says it will enforce stronger planning standards to protect public infrastructure and ensure sustainable growth in Kano State.
