TikTok Removes 4.8M Harmful Videos in Nigeria as AI Safety Steps Up
TikTok’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report shows that the platform removed over 4.8 million videos in Nigeria during the first quarter of 2026. Those clips made up 0.6% of all uploads, with 99.8% detected proactively and 92.8% taken down within 24 hours. On TikTok LIVE, the company suspended 120,000 sessions in Nigeria for guideline breaches. It also removed more than 118,000 AI-edited or AI-generated posts under its new media policy. Globally, TikTok took down 184 million videos and deactivated 86 million fake accounts in the same period. TikTok credited its enforcement gains to partnerships with Nigeria’s Office of the National Security Adviser and civil society groups. The platform will soon launch an in-app AI Literacy Hub for Nigerian users and has pledged over US$4 million to support AI education with local organisations. It has also joined the steering committee of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity to help set global transparency standards.
