Fake Taxi Driver Jailed for Kidnapping Drunk Woman Caught on CCTV
Chilling CCTV footage shows a predator posing as a taxi driver kidnapping a young woman in Newcastle city centre. She was separated from friends late at night and dragged into a white VW Golf after asking for help. Police monitoring live cameras intervened before the vehicle could drive off. Fifty-one-year-old Kuldip Chahal was arrested, later found guilty of kidnap and sentenced to seven years in prison. He will also serve an extended licence period of three years and is subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The victim described how the attack has left her anxious and less confident. She said she no longer feels safe in situations she once enjoyed and struggles to reclaim her sense of self after the ordeal. A detective praised the woman’s courage and highlighted Operation Salus, which monitors vulnerable people at night. He credited alert officers for intervening swiftly and preventing further harm.
