FCT Court Issues Bench Warrant for Police Officer in N300m Eviction Case

FCT Court Issues Bench Warrant for Police Officer in N300m Eviction Case

Justice Samira Bature of the FCT High Court in Maitama has issued a fresh bench warrant directing all law enforcement agencies to arrest Insp. Edith Erhunwuse over her absence from a N300 million criminal eviction and property damage suit. At the resumed hearing, the prosecution explained that previous orders and Inspector-General directives failed to secure the officer’s appearance. Citing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the court granted the new warrant for disobedience and disrespect of court processes. Justice Bature noted that delays could worsen with the upcoming court vacation and urged the parties to seek an out-of-court settlement. The matter was adjourned to September 29, 2026, with a stern warning against further non-appearance. Other parties in the case include the first defendant represented by A.S. Usman and Abuja lawyer Victor Giwa acting in person for the second defendant.
