1 / 2

Lagos State and the California State Assembly have formalized a sister-state relationship through Assembly Concurrent Resolution 129. The partnership was unveiled at the California/Africa Climate and Economic Forum 2026 and sponsored by Assembly member Matt Haney. Representatives included government officials, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora. On behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos Office of Diaspora Affairs, ESV Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, highlighted plans for collaboration on climate resilience, transport, infrastructure, innovation, and economic development under the THEMES+ Agenda. California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin praised the agreement as a practical, people-centered framework that builds on ties forged by Governor Newsom. Stakeholders from both regions will work together on clean mobility, climate innovation, and expanded cultural and economic exchange.
