IWD: IFAD-VCDP Charges Ebonyi Women to Strengthen Families, Economy and Nutrition
The IFAD-assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) has urged women in Ebonyi State to support their families and uplift society. State Programme Coordinator, Chief Sunday Ituma, made the call in Abakaliki during an International Women’s Day event for programme participants. He encouraged women to be economically engaged and assist their husbands at home. He also urged active roles in women’s rights, justice and empowerment, and called for more women to seek leadership and participate in politics. He commended participants from the eight LGAs for their exhibitions, march past and other activities. The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, represented by Mrs Ngozi Emeka‑Anosike, praised the women’s resilience. She noted that the showcased foods are rich in protein and vitamins and urged Nigerians to return to natural foods and reduce junk consumption for better health. Mrs Francisca Anya, the Rural Institutions, Gender and Youth Mainstreaming Officer of Ebonyi IFAD‑VCDP, said the women produced the items under the programme’s tutelage. The foods include garri, cassava, vegetables and local soups. She affirmed IFAD‑VCDP’s continued support to build women’s economic capacity.
