Stop Using Crime Labels to Fuel Tribalism in Nigeria

Every ethnic group in Nigeria has its share of criminal incidents, but no tribe is crime-free. Turning isolated cases into tribal accusations only deepens divisions and distracts from real issues. While some African countries may seek to undermine Nigeria’s reputation, Nigerians sometimes do more harm by airing grievances against one another. Online debates that pit north against south only feed external narratives working against us. We need to recognise when crime headlines are being weaponised to stoke tribalism. Instead of blaming entire regions, let’s focus on unity and call out divisive rhetoric whenever it appears.
