1 / 4

During his valedictory lecture at UNIZIK, Prof Joel Izuchukwu Igbokwe highlighted the power of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence in modern surveying and disaster response. He explained that GEO-AI boosts early disaster detection, rapid mapping of affected areas, accurate damage assessment and efficient resource deployment. He urged a nationwide Geo-AI mapping initiative, stronger ties with the National Space Research Development Agency, increased funding for disaster mapping and a clear legal framework for Geo-AI use. The lecture also featured remarks from the Vice-Chancellor, a festschrift launch in Prof Igbokwe’s honour titled “The Science of Modelling and Predicting Geospatial Phenomena,” and the attendance of senior academics and well-wishers.
